History And Programme
The Faculty of Environmental Design (now Environmental Sciences) started in the academic year 1971/72 with 18 students for the B. E. S. programme. In the 1980/81 session the Faculty introduced the six-year professional degree programme, restructured the faculty into three interdependent and mutually cooperating departments of Architecture, Building Technology (now Building) and City and Regional Planning. In 1986/87 session, the department of Building Technology was moved into the Faculty of Engineering where it was renamed Department of Building Engineering but by 1988/89 session, through an order from NUC, Senate brought the department back into the present faculty of Environmental Sciences. At present the faculty comprises the following four departments, namely Architecture and Design, Department of Building, Department of Estate Management and Urban and Regional Planning. It is expected that the department of quantity surveying will take off as soon approval is obtained from the National Universities Commission (NUC)
The Academic Advisors, Head of Department and Staff in the department of Building are always available to help and guide the building students. In order to provide the atmosphere and the opportunity for the intellectual growth and development of all the students there are teaching staff of full-time and associate lecturers who are capable of carrying out rigorous and non-doctinaire academic leadership.
