Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (SIR) Program. The Scholar-in-Residence program brings visiting scholars and professionals from abroad to lecture at U.S. colleges and universities for one semester or academic year. Regarding the 2009-10 academic year, I am writing to you because the institutional proposal of Virginia State University recommended for the SIR program this year would like us to
coordinate recruiting a scholar from Nigeria to fulfill this award. Hence, PAS requests your assistance in completing the next steps of the process.

a) Since you are asked to recruit a scholar, please provide PAS with the forms listed below, which are attached.
a. The first four pages of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Application Form, which the scholar should complete and submit to us.
b. A completed English Proficiency Report Form on the SIR Scholar candidate to be completed by us.
c. Two references on behalf of the scholar
d. Curriculum Vitae
e. A letter from the scholar’s home institution stating that the scholar will receive leave of absence if selected for an SIR grant (to be submitted to PAS if selected)
f. A completed Medical History and Examination Form from the Scholar (note: this can not be submitted to PAS until the institution has approved the scholar; and no sooner than six months before the grant start date)
Any candidates who have extensive and prolonged academic activities in the United States during the past five year will be disqualified from consideration s. As is customary in the Fulbright Scholar Program, preference is given to
individuals who have not previously been a Fulbright Grantee
