Objectives:
· To produce highly qualified teachers to teach school subjects at all levels of education in Nigeria and to train educational administrators, guidance counsellors, adult educators, physical and health educators who would be able to function effectively in their areas of specialization after graduation;
· To produce scholars of high calibre at postgraduate levels capable of educating teachers in higher institutions of learning or holding top positions in the educational and other sectors of the economy;
· To promote the growth and development of sound education in the country through rendering of consultancy services to governments, educational institutions, industry and the nation as a whole; and to enhance the improvement of teaching standards through the encouragement of in-service training programmes for serving teachers;
To promote high standards of teaching and learning in Nigerian educational institutions.
The Faculty is committed to the pursuance of the following ideals:
Conducting research into the complex processes of teaching and learning which have relevance to education in Nigeria;
Providing the necessary data on which policy makers can base their decisions; and
Disseminating grounded research findings and/or policies to schools through graduate teachers, and publications in books and reputable learned journals.
The Faculty of Education collaborates with the Faculties of Arts, Business Administration, Science, and Social Sciences in the teaching of subject content in all undergraduate programmes.
